Pyeongchang 2018 have unveiled the official sport pictograms for next year’s Winter Paralympic Games.

Organisers have claimed the pictograms will help to showcase South Korea and what the country has to offer, as they are designed using their alphabet known as Hangeul.

It reflects the Olympic pictograms, launched at the start of the year, with the lines of the Hangeul letters representing the six Para sport disciplines for the Paralympic Winter Games.

The Paralympic disciplines of alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ice hockey, snowboard and wheelchair curling are also featured.

It is claimed the symbols will help to cement the identity of the Games and bring their history and culture to a global audience.

“The Paralympic pictograms were designed in such a way that they are easily identifiable with the sports they represent and they tell a story about South Korea and our culture,” said Lee Hee-beom, Pyeongchang 2018 President.

“Every Para athlete will bring their amazing spirit and passion to the Games and we see that shine through across all six sports that the pictograms represent.

“Now is the time for people to create their own passion and excitement around the Paralympic Games and also learn more about Korean culture.”

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Sir Philip Craven claimed earlier this month that Pyeongchang 2018 must "increase awareness and interest levels".

Sir Philip has stated that the pictograms can help to boost the awareness of the Games, which will take place from March 9 to 18 next year.

“The launch of the pictograms marks another landmark in the build up to the Pyeongchang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games,” he said.

“The pictograms will serve as a communication platform to help raise awareness of the six Paralympic winter sports across multiple channels between now and the Games.

“They will help to assist all those engage in the Games by giving them an idea of what they can expect when the event opens on 9 March.”

Pyeongchang 2018 are currently preparing for the final Paralympic test event before the Games, with the Gangneung Hockey Centre scheduled to host the World Para Ice Hockey Championships from April 11 to 20.

The top five teams will earn places at next year’s Games.

Tickets for the Paralympic Games will be place on sale later this year.
