Volunteers are being sought for this year’s Under-18 Baseball World Cup taking place in Thunder Bay, Canada.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) competition is scheduled to run from September 1 to 10 and will be the 28th edition of the tournament.

Organisers have opened up an online registration portal on the World Cup’s website as preparations continue.

Among the roles available for people to apply for include ballpen catchers, bat boys, ticket sellers, team hosts and translators.

“Volunteers are the backbone of events such as this one,” said tournament executive director Warren Philp.

“No baseball expertise is needed for many of the positions that are available.

“If you have an interest, register today.”

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteers will be charged CAD$25 (£14/$18/€17) to cover uniform costs.

The tournament will feature 50 games over the course of the 10 days with 12 teams battling for the title.

Group A will see hosts Canada take on South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Australia, Italy and Nicaragua.

Japan head up Group B and will face defending champions the United States along with Cuba, Mexico, The Netherlands and South Africa.
