Two athletes set to compete for Rwanda at next month's World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) World Championships in Muju have began training at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

Representing Rwanda at the WTF's flagship event, which is scheduled to take place at the South Korean Taekwondowon venue from June 24 to 30, will be Regis Iyumva in the men's under-58 kilograms category and Aline Ndacyayisenga in the women's under-53kg division.

The seven days of competition will be immediately followed by the Asian Para-Taekwondo Open in South Korean city Chuncheon on July 1, when Rwanda's Jean Claude Niringiyimana and Jean Marie Vianney Bizumuremyi will be in action.

Niringiyimana, who was named as the International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) Allianz Athlete of the Month for April, will contest the K44 men's under-61kg category.

Bizumuremyi, the national team captain, will battle for medals in the K42 men's under-61kg division.

Niringiyimana picked up the IPC Allianz Athlete of the Month for April after impressing on home soil at the Africa Para-Taekwondo Open in Kigali.

It was his first international competition, but he made it all the way to the final, upsetting some of the best in the world.

He eventually claimed the silver medal after losing to Spain's Aythami Santana.

His run in the K44 men's under 61kg category included a narrow 7-6 victory over Lesotho's Phoofolo Mokhethi.

Bizumuremyi was the runner-up in the K42 men’s under 61kg division.
