Germany’s Christian Reitz secured the 11th gold of his career today with victory in the 25 metre rapid fire pistol competition at the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup event in Gabala in Azerbaijan.

In the final at the Gabala Shooting Club, the 30-year-old who won gold at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was in dominant form as he equalled the world record of 35 hits to top the podium.

This put him six in front of France’s Clement Bessaguet while Italian Riccardo Mazzetti, whose record Reitz matched, finished on 25 to take the bronze medal.

“Today has been great,” Reitz said.

“Being first after the qualification gave me even more confidence and the final was great as well.

“I’m pretty satisfied with my shooting today.”

The men’s 50m rifle prone was the other competition held during the day, with the first two elimination rounds taking place.

A total of 56 shooters progressed from the eliminations and will go into tomorrow’s qualification round, with the final happening later in the day.
