Now in their third year, the Games were part of Los Angeles 2024's #FollowTheSun to Olympic Agenda 2020 campaign.

This involves 20 events in 20 days in an effort to show how the Los Angeles bid for the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics can contribute to Olympic Agenda 2020, the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) road-map for the future. 

This year's Angel City Games took place at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the bid's proposed Olympic and Paralympic Village site.

It began on Friday (June 23) with a Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony at the Bruin Walk and Drake Stadium.

Action then took centre stage with sports clinics and competitions in athletics, wheelchair tennis, wheelchair basketball and swimming across three days.

Facilities used at UCLA included Drake Stadium Field, LA Tennis Center, John Wooden Center and the Spieker Aquatics Center.

There were also a number of community-building activities for athletes and guests including musical performances and a celebrity wheelchair basketball match.

Sanctioned by Adaptive Sports USA, the Games serve hundreds of adaptive athletes native to the Los Angeles area, in addition to participants who travel from across the United States and around the world to join in each year.

Participants include beginner to elite adults, military veterans, active duty military personnel and children.

"Our goal from day one has been to create a place where people with physical disabilities can be active, connect with the community and showcase what they can do at the court, field, pool or track," Clayton Frech, founder of Angel City Sports, said.

"In just three short years we've built the Angel City Games into a premiere adaptive sports event in Southern California."

The #FollowTheSun campaign will include community events, sports demonstrations and important announcements, and is designed to capture the imagination of the IOC.

Each event will aim to demonstrate why the plan of Los Angeles 2024 is "not only aligned with Olympic Agenda 2020, but will help the IOC make tangible progress in its mission to safeguard the uniqueness of the Olympic Games and strengthen sport in society".

A decision on who will host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which sees Los Angeles battling French capital Paris, is due to be made on September 13 at the IOC Session in the Peruvian capital Lima.

Earlier this month, a proposal to award both the 2024 and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the two cities was "unanimously" approved by the IOC Executive Board.
