The defending champion who lost his title by five points to Czech bowman David Drahoninsky but was still satisfied with his performance.

 

He said: “I’m proud that I’ve won the medal.

 

"Of course you are hoping for more when you come here, but I’d have felt comfortable if I’d come in the top four.”

 

Cavanagh beat the United States John Fabry in a closely fought semi-final that finished 109-107 before facing Drahoninsky.

 

But the reigning champion hit just one 10 in the final and lost 108-103.

 

Cavanagh said: “These guys shoot so well and I don’t see them very often.

 

"In the final I didn’t feel comfortable and he’s a great archer.”

 

Danielle Brown and John Stubbs won golds yesterday in the compound open singles, with Mel Clarke taking a bronze.
