Representatives from the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong (SF&OC) attended the Closing Ceremony of an Olympism Camp today.

The event was conducted at the Tai Tam Scout Centre and among the delegates was the SF&OC President Timothy Fok.

Fok was joined by Jenny Fung, director of the Hong Kong Sports Institute, Yeung Tak-keung, commissioner for Sports for Home Affairs Bureau, and Prof Frank Fu, chairman of the Hong Kong Olympic Academy.

The camp aims to promote the values of the Olympics and has been held annually since 2013, with young athletes from Hong Kong taking part.

This year’s event, which had the theme of Olympic journey, also saw students who participated in the Olympism Education Programme and Sports Legacy Scheme also join in with activities at the camp.

“I wish that all the participating athletes can demonstrate the Olympic values during their daily training and in competitions and to promote sports to the general public and motivate others to participate in sport,” Fok said during the Ceremony.

Hong Kong has competed at every Summer Olympics since Helsinki 1952 apart from Moscow 1980, when they were one of the teams who boycotted the event.

They have won one medal of each colour, with their solitary gold coming at Atlanta 1996 when Lee Lai-Shan topped the women’s sailboard mistral competition.
