Kemar Lawrence scored a stunning late free kick as Jamaica booked their place in a second consecutive Gold Cup final with a 1-0 victory over Mexico.

The Jamaican team headed into their semi-final clash eager to avenge their loss in the 2015 final, which the Mexicans won 3-1.

Jamaica goalkeeper Andre Blake needed to be alert in the first half to prevent at similar outcome at the Rose Bowl.

He saved smartly from Jesus Dueñas, before blocking the follow-up of Erick Torres in the 12th minute of the tie.

Torres was again denied by the goalkeeper 10 minutes later, with Blake turning away the striker’s close-range header.

Both sides would then go close to finding the target with free-kicks, with Jamaica’s Jermaine Taylor seeing a long range strike saved by Jesus Corona as the first half drew to a close.

Jesus Gallardo went close for Mexico at the start of the second half, but Blake continued to stand firm.

A free kick would prove the decisive moment of the match, with defender Lawrence curling a stunning left footed strike over the Mexican wall in the 88th minute.

Corona, who had only conceded once all tournament, was only able to watch as the ball found the top corner of his net.

Mexico were unable to respond in the dying minutes of the game, with their participation in major tournaments this summer coming to an end.

They had headed into the Gold Cup with a vastly different squad to the one which competed at the Confederations Cup in Russia last month.

Having booked their place in the final, Jamaica will now prepare to face the United States at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Wednesday (July 26).
