A short track junior team development camp is being organised by US Speedskating at the Utah Olympic Oval this week as they prepare for the upcoming season.

They will be prepare for the opening competition of the season, the Short Track Desert Classic, which takes place from July 29 to 30 at the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic venue. 

The camp will be comprised of skaters who were recently named to the 2017-2018 Short Track Junior Development Team, the Junior National Team and Short Track Junior Development Skaters.

They will train alongside leading skaters and coaches at senior level.

It comes as the United States seeks to improve the long-term future of the sport after a disappointing showing at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

The country earned just a solitary silver medal in the Russian coastal resort.

It came in the 5,000 metres relay as Eddy Alvarez, J.R. Celski, Christopher Creveling and Jordan Malone finished second behind Russia. 

The team drew a complete medals blank at this year's World Championships in Rotterdam.
