Slovenian star Janja Garnbret continued her superb run of form as she clinched her third consecutive lead victory at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup in Briançon.

The defending overall champion had to settle for the silver at the World Games in Wrocław, but struck gold in the French commune today with another assured display.

The 18-year-old managed one move further than World Games gold medallist Anak Verhoeven of Belgium to finish at the summit of the podium, which has become a familiar feeling for the Slovenian on the World Cup circuit.

Kim Jain of South Korea was the recipient of the bronze medal as she comfortably held off the challenge of French climber Julia Chanourdie.

The Frenchwoman was unable to deliver the medal the home crowd so desperately craved in a weather-affected final, which had to be delayed due to adverse conditions.

Fortunately for the French supporters, Romain Desgranges gave them a victory to celebrate as he won the men's event.

Desgranges banished the disappointment of missing out on a medal at the World Games with an impressive performance to secure the gold medal.

He made full use of being the last climber to take to the wall, beating Canada's Sean McColl, who had to settle for silver.

Stefano Ghisolfi of Italy rounded off the top three as he took home the bronze medal.

The IFSC World Cup series continues next month with a bouldering competition for men and women in Munich on August 18 and 19.
