Czech ice hockey legend Frantisek Sevcik has died at the age of 75, it has been announced.

The right winger is best known for his goal and assist at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble, which helped his side to a shock 5-4 victory against the Soviet Union.

It was not enough to prevent the Soviets from clinching gold, but Sevcik's Czechoslovakia finished second in the round-robin tournament to seal silver medals.

He was then named to the all-star team for the Games.

Sevcik played in five International Ice Hockey Federation events in all, winning a medal on each occasion.

He won silver medals at the World Championships in 1965 and 1966 and bronzes in 1969 and 1970.

In 2014, Sevcik was inducted into the Czech Hall of Fame and is still regarded as one of the country's best-ever players.

He notably played on the same line as Jozef Golonka and Jaroslav Jirik, who are similarly thought of.

His club ice hockey was largely played with Kometa Brno before retirement in 1977.
