Speaking following an evaluation meeting, Rukhledev said his "personal choice" would be to take the Deaflympics to Dubai.

The United Arab Emirates city has never hosted the Deaflympics, while Los Angeles, which looks set to stage the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics, held the event in 1985.

The United States also hosted the event in Washington D.C in 1965.

The Opening Ceremony of this year's Deaflympics in the Turkish city took place three days after the one-year anniversary of the failed coup attempt in the country.

On July 15, 2016, at least 249 people were killed when a faction in the army sent tanks into the streets and war planes into the sky in a bid to overthrow President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Erdogan led a series of events to mark the one-year anniversary earlier this month.

Following the attempted coup, the political situation in Turkey remained volatile but Rukhledev claimed he believed the country would still be able to host the Deaflympics.

He admitted, however, that the organisation had concerns regarding progress of construction during their preparations but said Turkey had held the "best-ever" edition of the event.

"What was important was Turkey staying a country of democracy," he said.

"Turkey managed to get out of this phase without problems. 

"I was trusting Turkey from the beginning. 

"I knew the organisation wouldn't get cancelled. 

"Yes, maybe we would have troubles but I told the members not to give up. 

"Turkey continuously gave us detailed reports on security and as we're seeing today, there were no problems."

General Coordinator of Deaflympics Serkan Baltacı thanked Rukhledev and the ICSD for having faith in Turkey's ability to stage the event.

"We Turks are emotional," he said.

"We never forget people who stand by us on our troubled days. 

"Mr Rukhledev supported us by calling on not just 97 countries here, but all 109 ICSD members to trust us".

The host nation enjoyed a golden ending to the event as they claimed the football title by beating Ukraine 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw at the Mayis Stadium.

Turkey also clinched gold in the women's under-49 kilograms taekwondo event as Merve Yazici overcame Russian opponent Evelina Karpinskaia at the Atatürk Sports Hall.

Bronze went to Szu-Ting Peng of Chinese Taipei and Viktoriya Protopopova of Kazakhstan.

Russia dominated the event and comfortably finished at the summit of the medals table with a total of 199, 85 of which were gold.
