The United States bounced back from their heavy defeat to hosts Chinese Taipei with victory over Japan as the super round of the World Baseball Softball Confederation Under-12 World Cup continued today.

The American team banished the disappointment of their 16-2 humbling at the hands of the home nation yesterday as they overcame Japan 6-3 at the Tainan Municipal Stadium.

Joshua Atomanczyk was the star of the show for the US as he hit five of his side's six runs.

"I don't have enough fine words for Josh," said US manager David Sharp.

"He is a strong kid who wants to win for our country.

"But I also care to say that this was a team effort."

The victory for the American team saw them move into joint top spot on the six-nation super round standings along with Chinese Taipei as both sides have a three win and one loss record to date.

Chinese Taipei were again in free-scoring form, much to the delight of the home crowd, as they proved far too strong for South Korea on their way to a convincing 11-1 win.

The hosts made a tentative start but eventually found their range, scoring their 11 runs across five innings to claim another comfortable victory.

Mexico's hopes of reaching the gold medal match were dealt a blow as they suffered a 9-7 reverse to Nicaragua, who earned their first super round success.

The Mexicans now sit joint third with Japan, with both teams having won two and lost two of their opening four super round contests.

The tournament continues tomorrow.
