Zhu Ting put in an excellent shift for hosts China today as she helped them to a tense tie-break victory against The Netherlands in the International Volleyball Federation World Grand Prix Group One Finals.

She got 33 points, with 31 from the attack line, to her name at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre as China eventually took the spoils in the match with the final score being 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 20-25, 18-16.

Nika Daalderop scored 22 for the Dutch, who were searching for a place in tomorrow’s semi-finals.

However, despite their valiant efforts, they could not see off Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallists China, who had already qualified for the semis, as Zhu led them to victory.

China’s win means defending champions Brazil have qualified for the last four.

In today’s other game in Nanjing, Serbia recorded a four set victory against Italy.

They won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-19 before the Italians battled back to claim the third 25-16.

But Serbia closed out the win in the fourth, which they took 27-25.

Top scoring for them was Tijana Boskovic with 16 points.

She was not the match’s leading scorer though as Italy’s Indre Sorokaite contributed 22 to her side’s tally.

Tomorrow’s semi-finals see Serbia face Brazil before China play Italy for a place in the final on Sunday (August 6).
