Tributes have been paid to former Royal Dutch Korfball Federation (KNKV) vice-president Jaap Oud following his death.

The 80-year-old passed away on August 4 in Wormer, a town about 13 kilometres from The Netherlands’ capital city Amsterdam.

Following a successful playing career with Groen Geel, Oud remained within the korfball community, serving as the KNKV vice-president during the 1980s and 1990s.

He stepped down from the role in 1993 but was made an honorary member of the KNKV.

Oud also served with the International Korfball Federation (IKF) and was a member of their committee responsible for organising events in Europe for 13 years.

The Dutchman also served as a jury member and coordinating officer and in 2006, IKF President Jan Fransoo presented him with the Badge of Honour.

"The IKF has lost a man with great commitment to the education and development of national and international korfball," an IKF statement said.

"We send our sincere condolences to his wife, Jeanet, children and grandchildren."

At last month's World Games, The Netherlands secured their ninth consecutive korfball title.
