There had been an Australian clean sweep of the three finals yesterday in the Ústí nad Labem region of Czech Republic.

Today, though, it was Australia's bitterest rivals who ruled the waves. 

Emma Wiggs, the reigning Paralympic champion, claimed her third successive KL2 women's 200 metres title.

It was the sixth world title of her career.

The 37-year-old crossed the line in 49.947sec to lead home a British one-two ahead of team-mate Nicola Paterson.

Paterson finished in 51.919 as Nadezda Andreeva of Russia took the bronze medal in 52.514.

A second British success followed for Jonathan Young in the non-Paralympic Games VL3 class.

He sped over the 200m course in 48.769 as team-mate Martin Tweedie took a second successive bronze medal in 50.958.

Caio Ribeiro de Carvalho of Brazil finished sandwiched in between the British duo in 49.330 for second place.

Esteban Gabriel Farias of Italy claimed the other gold medal today, winning the men's KL1 200m in 47.1162.

Róbert Suba of Hungary placed second, in 47.438, with Luis Carlos Cardoso da Silva of Brazil third, in 4:48.01.

A final day of Para-canoe competition is due to take place tomorrow.

The day will also mark the start of medal races in Olympic categories at the corresponding World Championships.

Denmark's defending champion René Holten Poulsen remains on course for a third successive K1 500m title after winning his semi-final today in 1:39.519.
