The event was also held in conjunction with the HYPE Foundation, a global platform that connects and invests in sports innovation.

Entries were focused on "disruptive innovations across all sports sectors".

The competition formed part of the 2017 FISU World Conference on Development through Sport, which is being held alongside the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade.

ChaseWind were named as winners after they presented headgear designed to prevent cycling injuries.

It allows cyclists to see real time data while they ride in an effort to increase safety.

Settings include a virtual coach and heart rate monitoring with a forward-facing camera that films rides also included.

As winners, ChaseWind received a free one year membership to the Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft in Madrid.

"We are so excited because this happened in Taipei," said ChaseWind chief executive William Su.

"It is our country.

"There are two advantages to Taipei: technology and the fact that the country is a bicycle kingdom."

Second place went to Choxue, a sports analytics and broadcasting company, while Game Time Giving were named third.

The mobile application targets those between the ages of 25 and 35 and pits them in a giving competition to see which fans can raise the most money

Other entrants included a "self-massage solution", a mobile app for golf statistics and an online system that allows runners around the world to connect in online competitions.

The FISU World Conference opened here in Taipei yesterday with a focus on healthy lifestyles and dual career programmes for athletes.
