A group of Nigerian sports administrators have participated in a seven-day training programme in strategic planning.

The course, attended by 17 people, was hosted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) through the Olympic Solidarity fund.

The participants were drawn from various organisations, including the Nigerian Olympic Committee and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Attendees also came from the National Institute for Sports, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, Sokoto State Ministry of Youth and Sports and Bayelsa State Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Sports consultant Kweku Tandoh also attended.

Speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the course Habu Gumel, the President of the NOC, said it gave a chance to follow up on the basic strategic planning seminar organised by the NOC for secretaries of National Sport Federations and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2016.

The objective of the course was to train strategic planning officers who, it is hoped, will pass on their knowledge to National Sport Federations and other stakeholders.

Gumel thanked the IOC for organising the event, stressing that strategic planning was vital in running the country's sports system.

"In the era of technological advancement, only those who are quick to adapt to change would be able to perform their duties in line with global standards," Ahmed Gumel said, according to the Daily Trust.

Robert Mutsauki, who oversaw the course, praised the participants' performance during the course and urged them to share their knowledge in the future.
