Described as "elegant" by the International Wushu Federation, the emblem features a dragon.

This is relevant to Kazan as the city's symbol is Zilant - a dragon or flying snake.

Zilant features on the city's coat of arms, while the dragon is also an important symbol in China where wushu was invented.

The IWUF said the logo had therefore "symbolically referenced the connection between China and Kazan".

A dragon's ability to breathe fire is also said to be depicted in the emblem.

In addition, it references the "baoquanli" martial arts greeting which is commonly used in wushu.

The colours, red and green, are the same used in the flag of the Republic of Tatarstan, where Kazan is the capital city.

Competition at the World Championships will take place between September 26 and October 3 at the Universiade Village. 

Bars, a snow leopard, has been unveiled as the event's mascot.

Wushu was one of three sports from a final shortlist of eight not to be recommended for inclusion at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

It missed out alongside bowling and squash.

Baseball/softball, climbing, karate, skateboarding and surfing were all accepted.  

Shanghai in China is the only candidate for the 2019 World Championships.
