Malaysia's Goh Jin Wei has confirmed she will only compete in the singles competition at the upcoming Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Junior Championships in the Indonesian city of Yogyakarta.

The Championships at the multi-purpose GOR Among Rogo Arena begin tomorrow with the start of the Suhandinata Cup, the mixed team event.

Following the conclusion of the mixed team competition, the Junior World Championships get underway on October 16 and finish on October 22.

Goh, who won the individual women's tournament at the Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, has opted to focus solely on the singles in a bid to preserve her fitness.

The 17-year-old rising star, who suffered an injury while playing in the Asian Junior Team Championships in July, will aim to return to the top of the singles podium at the Championships in Yogyakarta having last clinched the title in 2015.

Asian junior champion Han Yue and Cai Yanyan of China will be among Goh's main challengers for the singles crown.

"The team is quite strong this time," Goh told The Star.

"The boys' singles and doubles can be counted on to deliver points.

"And that's why I'm playing singles this time.

"This is my fifth world juniors and I've been training a lot harder since losing in the final of the Singapore International Series last month.

"I've studied the video analysis to see where my weaknesses are.

“I'll definitely go out there and give it a good fight.

"And I've been playing a lot better leading up to this year's world juniors compared to last year's meet.

"Hopefully, there's not too much expectations on me."

Hosts Indonesia will be looking to get the Championships off to the best possible start with a respectable performance in the mixed team competition.

South Korea, Japan, India and Chinese Taipei are all expected to challenge for the title at the Suhandinata Cup, which concludes on Saturday (October 14).
