Australia and China booked their place in the women's final of the 2017 International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Asia Oceania Championships in Beijing today, securing qualification for next year’s World Championships in the process.

Both teams registered semi-final wins today at the Chinese Paralympic Training Venue, with Australia beating Japan 71-41 and China defeating Iran 108-4.

They have, therefore, guaranteed the two spots available for women’s teams at the 2018 World Championships, which are scheduled to take place in German city Hamburg from August 17 to 26.

The final is scheduled to be played tomorrow.

It will be preceded by the bronze medal match between Japan and Iran.

The line-up for tomorrow’s men’s semi-finals was also decided today, with Australia set to face South Korea and Japan in line to meet Iran.

The quarter-finals saw Australia beat Hong Kong 102-10, Japan defeat Iraq 95-34, Iran overcome China 86-45 and South Korea down Thailand 67-32.

All four semi-finalists have qualified for the World Championships.

Earlier in the day, Saudi Arabia beat Afghanistan 64-49 in the 13th-place play-off.

The ninth-place play-off will be contested by Chinese Taipei and Kuwait after both triumphed in their matches today.

Chinese Taipei defeated New Zealand 58-48, while Kuwait overcame the United Arab Emirates 57-48.

New Zealand and the UAE will battle it out for the right to finish in 11th spot. 

The fifth-to-eighth-place classification games pit Hong Kong against Thailand and Iraq against China.
