Olympic bronze medallist Mary Kom of India will face home favourite Diem Thi Trinh Kieu in her opening bout at the Asian Women's Boxing Championships after organisers conducted the draw on the eve of the event in Ho Chi Minh City.

Kom, a five-time world champion, is among the headline names due to compete at the Nguyen Du Indoor Stadium in the Vietnamese city.

The Indian star will go up against Diem in the first round of the women's light flyweight category at the event which begins tomorrow and concludes on November 11.

Kom's compatriot Seema Poonia is guaranteed a medal after receiving a bye through to the semi-finals of the heavyweight category.

Poonia is one of only four boxers competing in the division and she will collect at least a bronze medal.

Olympic silver medallist Yin Junhua has dropped down a weight division to featherweight and faces a tough challenge in her opening bout.

The Chinese competitor will fight World Championships silver medallist Nesthy Petecio, of The Philippines, in what is one of the most eagerly-anticipated first round contests.

A total of 107 athletes from 20 countries are set to participate.

Cambodia, Laos, Singapore and Myanmar are making their Asian Women's Boxing Championships debuts.

India, Kazakhstan and hosts Vietnam have all registered the maximum number of 10 boxers.

The competition is the eighth edition of the event which was first held in Bangkok in 2001.

Wulanchabu, in China, played host in 2015.
