Bosnia and Herzegovina will meet Russia in the semi-finals of the European Sitting Volleyball Championships in Poreč as they seek to retain their men’s title.

The Bosnian team proved too good for their German rivals in their last eight match today, maintaining their 100 per cent record.

Having brushed aside their Group B opponents on the opening days of the Championships, Bosnia maintained their form by beating Germany 25-14, 25-19, 26-24.

The result set up a match against Russia after they swept to a 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 victory over Serbia.

Ukraine were also straight sets winners in the quarter-finals, easily defeating Poland 25-12, 25-19, 25-14.

They will meet the host nation in the last four as Croatia impressively saw off the challenge of The Netherlands.

Backed by the crowd at the Inter Sport Zelena Laguna, the hosts recorded a 27-25, 25-16, 25-22 win.

Two quarter-finals took place in the women’s event today, with group winners Russia and Finland having already progressed to the last four.

Ukraine, the Group B runners-up behind Russia, cruised into the semi-finals.

They emerged 25-14, 25-21, 25-13 winners against Hungary.

The Netherlands then clinched a 25-17, 29-27, 20-25, 25-19 victory over Slovenia in the second quarter-final.

A draw took place following the matches, with the Dutch team due to to play defending champions Russia in the semi-finals.

Ukraine will take on Finland, who were winners of Group A.

The semi-final line-up also confirmed the four nations to qualify for next year’s World Championships.

The Netherlands were already assured of taking part as hosts but Finland, Russia and Ukraine’s places have now been confirmed.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow.
