Nao Kodaira sealed her second gold medal as Japan enjoyed a dominant day at the International Skating Union Speed Skating World Cup in Heerenveen.

Kodaira followed up her win in the 500m by skating to victory in the second women's race held over the distance at the Thialf Ice Arena in the Dutch city.

The reigning world champion crossed the line in a time of 37.33 to beat South Korea's Lee Sang-hwa.

Double Olympic gold medallist Lee finished in 37.53 to take silver, while bronze went to Kodaira's compatriot Arisa Go.

There was further success for the Japanese team as Miho Takagi won the women's 1,500m in 1:54.68.

Takagi, the only athlete to go below the 1:55.00 mark, claimed gold ahead of Dutch duo Jorien ter Mors and Lotte van Beek, silver and bronze medallists respectively.

Japan then completed a hat-trick of victories on day two of finals at the season-opening World Cup event as Ayano Sato reigned supreme in the women's mass start.

Sato's time of 8:31.12 proved too strong for the rest of the field, with Canada's Ivanie Blondin and Francesca Lollobrigida of Italy earning silver and bronze respectively.

Laurent Dubreuil of Canada claimed the men's 500m honours to clinch his maiden Short Track World Cup success.

The Canadian clocked 34.80, denying the home nation victory as Dutch skater Jan Smeekens was the recipient of the silver medal.

Smeekens' team-mate Ronald Mulder finished third.

Denis Yuskov of Russia powered to a dominant win in the men's 1,500m as he got his campaign off to the best possible start by virtue of recording a time of 1:44.42.

Vincent De Haitre of Canada was over a second slower in silver medal position and Thomas Krol added to the Dutch team's medal tally with bronze.

South Korea's Lee Seung-hoon, Olympic 10,000m gold medallist at Vancouver 2010, edged American Joey Mantia in a hard-fought men's mass start.

Lee completed the circuit in 7:36.42 to beat Mantia, while Chung Jae-won, also of South Korea, held on for bronze.

The event in Heerenveen concludes tomorrow.
