Badminton World Federation (BWF) have announced the five athletes who will form their Para-badminton Athletes’ Commission.

The confirmation follows the conclusion of the nomination process on October 20, with the governing body confirming that five eligible nominations had been made.

India’s Anand Kumar was nominated for one of the positions, with the 39-year-old considered to be popular among Indian and foreign Para-badminton players.

He was the gold medalist at the BWF Para badminton World Championship in 2015, when he triumphed in the men’s SL3-SL4 doubles category.

Kumar will be joined by Nigeria’s Bello Rafiu Oyebanji, who has pledged to try to grow the sport throughout Africa.

Hong Kong’s Daniel Chan, the world number two in WH 2 class, and Raúl Eduardo Anguiano Araujo of Guatemala were also nominated.

The Commission will be completed by Richard Perot of France, who acts as the current chair of the group.

Under his leadership for the past four years, the Commission helped to establish an athletes Facebook, and organise player’s meetings.

Perot also represented athletes at the International Paralympic Committee and at BWF Para commissions and events.

He has been involved in the discussions and proposals for the Tokyo 2020 programme and qualification process.

An election had been due to take place on November 24 at the World Championships in Ulsan, South Korea.

Due to their being exactly five nominations for the five positions, an election will not be required.

Each of the members will serve a four-year term, taking them up to 2021.

The Commission will come into effect from November 25, with their first task to decide whether Perot remains at its chair.

A recommendation will then be made to the BWF Council for a vice-chair.
