Andriy Naniev won the men's 83kg title ©IPF

Ukraine’s Andriy Naniev claimed the men’s under 83 kilogram title at the International Powerlifting Federation Open World Championships continued in Pilsen.

Naniev began in fine fashion at the Parkhotel Congress Center in the Czech city, achieving a lift of 352.5kg in the squat discipline.

He was able to follow the performance by achieving totals of 267.5kg and 312.5kg in the bench and deadlifts respectively.

It gave the Ukrainian and final total of 932.5kg, which placed him at the top of the overall standings.

Kazakhstan’s Ulan Anuar claimed the silver medal, having achieved a tally of 915kg across the three disciplines.

The podium was rounded off by Norway’s Kim-Raino Roelvaag, who lifted 870kg.

There was further Ukrainian success in the women’s under-63kg competition, as Larysa Soloviova topped the standings.

She managed a total of 607.5kg, with Brazil’s Cicera Tavares taking the silver some way down on 570kg.

Ecuador’s Johanna Aguinaga won bronze on 542.5kg.

Dmitry Inzarkin of Russia claimed gold in the men's under-93kg competition, having lifted an overall total of 995kg.

Brazil’s David Coimbra and Germany’s Sascha Stendebach completed the podium places, with both men achieving totals of 952.5kg.
