Morning qualification at the Experience Milano amusement park will be followed by the finals under the lights.

A strong women’s field includes the likes of Switzerland’s Giulia Tanno, Norway’s Johanne Killi and France’s Coline Ballet Baz.

They are all ready to compete on the 40-metre high ramp along with Italy’s Silvia Bertagna, who will be aiming to improve on her fourth-place finish from last year in Milan. 

In the men’s event, Switzerland’s Elias Ambuehl and Andri Ragettli are among those looking to compete for the top spots.

Norwegians Oystein Braaten and Felix Stridsberg-Usterud, and the United States’ Noah Wallace are also expected to be in contention.

The FIS Freestyle Skiing Big Air World Cup had been scheduled to begin in Danish capital Copenhagen earlier this month, but the event was cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

Competition was to take place on November 3 with the season-opening FIS Snowboard Big Air World Cup event scheduled for the following day. 

Street food and music were planned around the World Cups as part of a wider event called the Copenhagen Winter Games.

However, Michael Fugmann, the organiser of the Games, revealed the World Cup had been cancelled with "great regret".

Big air competitions can be held in city centres where ramps can be constructed.

TV2 reported that a 50-metre high structure and 800 tonnes of snow would have been used in Copenhagen.

The news came as a blow to the FIS in the run-up to the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics, where ticket sales have also been a problem across every sport at the Games.
