Emanuel Perathoner of Italy rounded out the top three after he registered a time of 1:23.45.

Reigning Olympic champion Pierre Vaultier of France could only manage 13th place after he crossed the line in 1:25.52.

The finals are due to be held tomorrow, along with qualification and finals in the women's event.

Nelly Moenne Loccoz of France is set to lead the home charge, while the Czech Republic's reigning Olympic champion Eva Samková is also among the list of entrants.

American Lindsey Jacobellis is another strongly favoured rider with a wealth of snowboard cross experience.

She will be seventh to go and the 32-year-old enters in good form and with a huge calibre.
