Preparations for the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games have been given a further boost after work began on the Olympic Village in Beijing.

The Village, one of three due to be used at the Games, will be home to athletes competing in ice sports.

It is situated in the north of urban Beijing and is due to have a total floor space of 200,000 square meters.

The state-owned Beijing Investment Group, the main investors, builders and operators of the facility, have revealed the Village will become public housing after the Games conclude.

Officials told China's official state news agency Xinhua that the Village would be "high-quality" and promised it would be "environmentally friendly".
