France's Camille Serme brushed aside the challenge of home athlete Nada Abo Alnaja in the first round of the Professional Squash Association Saudi Women's Masters.

Second seed Serme enjoyed a comfortable performance in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh to ease past the wildcard.

The Frenchwoman dropped just six points in the clash, as she quickly wrapped up a 11-1, 11-3, 11-2 victory at the Princess Nora bint Abdul Rahman University.

Serme will meet Nour El Tayeb in tomorrow’s second round, with the Egyptian having triumphed 11-4, 11-3, 11-8 in her match against Hong Kong’s Liu Tsz-Ling.

Tournament third seed Raneem El Welily was another comfortable victor on the second day of competition.

The Egyptian player cruised to an 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 success against Belgium’s Nele Gilis.

El Welily’s reward will be a clash against Olivia Blatchford, following the American player’s victory in her first round tie.

Blatchford proved too good for Mariam Metwally, having claimed a 13-11, 11-5, 11-4 win over her Egyptian opponent.

Malaysia’s Nicol David, a two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, won 11-4, 11-3, 11-3 against Egypt’s Mayar Hany.

She will face the winner of the match between Samantha Cornett of Canada and India’s Joshna Chinappa.

England’s Sarah-Jane Perry was also a first round winner, as she overcame Hong Kong’s Joey Chan 11-9, 11-6, 11-6.

Perry will now face Wales’ Tesni Evans, who progressed after England’s Millie Tomlinson was forced to retire from the event.

The competition is the first professional women's squash event to take place in Saudi Arabia.

The top eight players in the standings at the end of the season will guarantee their participation at the Professional Squash Association World Series Finals in June.
