British-based Vero Communications have announced their support for Morocco's bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The body, chaired by experienced media consultant Mike Lee, will act as lead "international communications and strategy agency" to help shape the vision of a "welcoming, passionate and authentic tournament".

They will be the lead agency on "all aspects of international media and social media communications and work closely with bid leaders on overall campaign strategy".

Vero enjoyed a successful 2017 after helping Paris' successful campaign to land the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as Andrew Parsons' victorious bid for the International Paralympic Committee Presidency.

Morocco's 2026 bid will be a sterner challenge, however, given how they are up against the might of a joint-bid from Canada, United States and Mexico.

It also represents something of a U-turn for Lee, the former London 2012 bid communications director, who announced last year that he was not expecting to participate in another bidding race.

“We are delighted to be joining the Morocco 2026 bid at this time and look forward to this exciting journey all the way to the FIFA Congress in June," Lee said in a statement announcing the appointment.

“Morocco is a truly welcoming country with an authentic passion for football, providing excellent conditions for players, easy for fans to access and get around and all in a single time zone.

"Its location at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, and East and West, means it also offers FIFA a superb commercial proposition.

“This promises to be a very interesting campaign as a country from Africa seeks the honour to host the most important footballing event on the planet.”

Vero have also worked on Rio de Janeiro and Pyeongchang's successful bids to host the 2016 and 2018 Summer and Winter Olympics respectively.

They supported Brian Cookson when he beat Pat McQuaid to become UCI President in 2013 and then Sebastian Coe when he triumphed over Sergey Bubka in his 2015 campaign to lead the International Association of Athletics Federations.

Vero also aided Gianni Infantino’s successful campaign to be elected as FIFA President in 2016 and still work for European football body, UEFA.

The company have also suffered defeats in recent years, however, as they have also been involved in unsuccessful campaigns for Didier Gailhaguet, John McEwen and Carlo Croce as they sought respective Presidential positions at the International Skating Union, International Equestrian Federation and World Sailing.

The 2026 World Cup host is due to be chosen at a FIFA Congress on June 13 in Moscow.

Delegates from all FIFA member federations are due to vote, for the first time, rather than the previous system in which a choice was made by the ruling Executive Committee.
