Russia swept the podium in the men's and women's speed finals to make a dominant start to the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) Ice Climbing World Tour in Saas-Fee in Switzerland.

The Russian team began the World Tour season in ominous fashion winning all six medals.

Ekaterina Feoktistova secured the women's honours as she set the two best times of 10.61sec and 10.75 in an impressive showing of speed and agility.

Ekaterina Koshcheeva did enough for the silver medal as her quickest time of 10.79, which came in her second attempt, saw her finish second.

The bronze medal was sealed by Natalia Belyaeva after she stopped the clock at 11.47.

It was a similar story in the men's event as Nikolai Kuzovlev produced a flawless final climb, clocking 8,56 to clinch the gold medal in style.

Anton Nemov was consigned to silver after registering a best of 8.81, while reigning world champion Vladimir Kartashev ended in bronze medal position in 8.98.

It could have been a lot better for Kartashev, who made two crucial mistakes to end his chances of finishing at the summit of the podium.

The season-opening event in the Swiss resort is due to conclude tomorrow with the men's and women's lead finals.
