The Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) held a special ceremony at the Azraq Refugee Camp in Jordan to mark the 70th anniversary of CARE International.

Students enrolled with the THF's Academy at the Camp were honoured for their accomplishments since taking up the sport.

CARE International, a humanitarian organisation, has allowed the THF to use one of its facilities in Azraq as a training space.

Special guests from the organisation were invited to attend the ceremony, as well as representatives from the United Nations Refugees Agency.

The Azraq Camp director was also present alongside the families of students.

Taekwondo presentations were performed by Academy coach Asif Sabah, with students also given the chance to give speeches documenting their experiences working with the THF.

"THF is very thankful towards CARE International for having organised such a great ceremony," a THF statement said.

"These types of events are meaningful for all the people involved in such projects.

"They especially serve as invaluable experiences for students, differing from the usual training sessions."

World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue officially announced his plan to establish the THF in his speech at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, on the 2015 International Day of Peace.

Its mission is to teach taekwondo and stage educational programmes with refugees and displaced people around the world.

As well as Jordan, projects are underway in countries such as Rwanda, Turkey, Djibouti and Nepal.

Most of the people living at Azraq have fled the conflict in neighbouring Syria.
