Hundreds of North Korean cheerleaders have arrived in South Korea today to support their team at the Winter Olympic Games here.

A total of 229 cheerleaders were among the 280-member delegation that came to the South via a western cross-border land route at 9:28am, according to South Korean news agency Yonhap News

After completing security, they travelled on buses to here.

The delegation is led by North Korea's Sports Minister Kim Il-guk. 

It also includes four officials from the Olympic Committee of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and 21 journalists.

The delegation is completed by 26 members of North Korea's taekwondo demonstration team, who are due to take part in four shows while they are here - two near Pyeongchang and two in Seoul.

Most of the group are due to stay at the Inje Speedium Hotel & Resort, a four-star luxury hotel a two-hour drive from here.

The hotel has placed banners around the premises welcoming the North Koreans, reading "We are one" and "Welcome".

The members from the National Olympic Committee will stay at the Holiday Inn, opposite the Main Press Centre here.

A 46-member delegation from North Korea that includes 22 athletes and a 140-member art troupe had already arrived in South Korea. 

A high-level delegation led by North Korea's nominal head of state, Kim Yong-nam, is due to make a three-day trip to South Korea starting on Friday (February 9), the day the Opening Ceremony for Pyeongchang 2018 is due to take place.
