Bahrain have held their second National Sports Day ©BOC

The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) have organised the second edition of the country's National Sports Day, with more than 250 activities arranged.

The governing body said that "tens of thousands" of citizens participated in the day, with a variety of sports featured as they sought to promote the benefits of an active healthy lifestyle.

The main programmes were run at the Sports Village in Isa Town Sports City, located behind the National Stadium in Riffa.

Sport was organised by different Ministries, private institutions and Bahrain's national federations.

Athletics, martial arts, football, basketball and mind-sports were among the activities featured on the day.

Triathlon, table tennis, cycling and taekwondo events were also included.

A fun run was arranged for the first time, with the initiative organised in collaboration with the Olympic Council of Asia as part of the promotion of the Jakarta-Palembang 2018 Asian Games.

Indonesia, Qatar and The Maldives have also held promotional fun runs to date, while Lebanon's capital Beirut is scheduled to host one on February 25.

The Asian Games are set to take place from August 18 to September 2.

The run featured both adults and children.

BOC general secretary and Organising Committee chairman Abdulrahman Askar, and Bahrain's Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs Hisham Al Jowder, presented awards to organisations who contributed to the day.

He also thanked Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa for his decision to make it a half day for the workers, allowing them to take part in the activities.

The Sports Day takes place on the second Tuesday of February.
