The Netherlands team have qualified for the final of the recurve event at the 2018 World Archery Indoor Championships following a semi-final victory over Ukraine in Yankton.

The Netherlands team, consisting of Sjef van den Berg, Rick van den Ven and Steve Wijler, will compete for their first indoor world title after a 5-3 victory over Ukraine in the semi-final, during which they only dropped three points, at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Complex.

After his side’s victory, van den Ven said: "I think we are all happy.

"We ranked first and that was a starting point.

"After that, we shot great in the quarters and in the semis.

"Hopefully we can keep it up until Sunday.

Wijler, recently announced as both the recurve archer and breakthrough athlete of the year by World Archery, added: "We are really confident.

"We have Sjef [van den Berg], who’s in the individual gold medal match and shot a European record.

"I did really well and Rick [van den Ven] is back on track, so we feel confident in our team.”

The Netherlands are now due to face Australia, whose team of Taylor Worth, Ryan Tyack and Astin Darcy, thrashed Russia 5-1.

They will now face Germany, whose team includes Rio 2016 silver medallist Lisa Unruh and who beat France 5-1.

The United States home crowd will have something to cheer for in the men’s compound final with their team set to face Italy in the gold medal match after beating The Netherlands 239-236.

Italy saw off Croatia by a 239-231 scoreline to book their place in the final.

The US team also made it through to the final of the women’s compound competition thanks to a 231-229 victory over neighbours Mexico.

They will now face Russia, who defeated Canada 233-229 in their semi-final.

The team recurve finals will take place tomorrow with the team compound titles set to be decided on Monday (February 19).
