Maame Biney of the United States took the 500 metres title on the second day of racing in the World Junior Short Track Championships at the Ice Arena in Tomaszow Mazowieckei in Poland.

The 2018 Olympian left nothing to chance in this International Skating Union event, winning every 500m race en route to the final before finishing her A final in 44.305sec.

Her gold medal is the first junior title for the US since J.R. Celski won the men’s 500m in 2009.

Hungary’s Petra Jászapáti of Hungary was second in 44.359 with The Netherlands' Xandra Velzeboer taking the bronze medal in 44.544.

South Korea dominated all three other finals on the night.

In the men’s 500m final, June Seo Lee took gold in 41.659 ahead of Kyung Hwan Hong, who clocked 41.837, with France’s Quentin Fercoq taking the bronze medal in 42.206.

The silver medal went to Canada’s Courtney Lee Sarault, who clocked 2:46.667.

That pattern was repeated in the men’s 1,500m final, where South Korea’s Kyung Hwan Hong took gold in 2:32.908 and compatriot Jang Hyuk Park claimed bronze in 2:33.020.

The silver medal went to Japan’s Kazuki Yoshinaga, who clocked 2:33.07.

"This is a huge boost from the Olympics since I didn’t do as well as I wanted to," said Biney.

"This means that I’m really ready for the World Cup stage and can continue to get better."

Biney won bronze in the women’s 500m at last year's World Junior Short Track Championships.
