The Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee are holding an advanced sports management course to boost standards in the country's sporting bodies.

The first of seven sessions took place from February 15 to 16, with 18 officials present at the event.

It included representatives from the Ministry of Sports and Culture, the Olympic Committee and National Federations, with all viewed as contributing to the day-to-day administration of their organisations.

The session focused on how officials "put their decisions into reality", their vision and ambitions and how they cooperate with their compatriots.

Training is set to focus on developing skills which will aid planning and development activities at federations over the next four years.

Olympic Solidarity’s Tharcisse Harerimana was among those present and claimed the training would help ensure effective organisation and better performance.

"We want to build good systems targeting not only better performance, but also ensure the federations are built around better administration and smart financial systems that can attract sponsors for our sports," Harerimana said.

The second phase of the programme is scheduled to take place between April 26 and 27, followed by the third session on May 24 and 25.

Participants will then return for further training on June 21 and 22, before the penultimate session takes place on July 12 and 13.

Training will conclude between August 16 and 19.
