Russian Evgeniy Pyasik won today's slalom competition at the test event for the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk.

Pyasik clocked a time of 1min 37.50sec to take victory at the Funpark Bobrovy Log Alpine skiing complex in the host city.

Alexander Voronov finished second behind his compatriot at the event, which doubled as the Russian Cup.

Nikita Guryanov came through to take third.

The competition gives organisers the chance to test preparations for the multi-sport event next year, due to be held from March 2 to 12.

Around 150 athletes have travelled from across Russia to participate in the test event, which is also scheduled to include downhill, giant slalom and parallel team races.

The venue contains nine ski runs, which all meet International Ski Federation (FIS) standards.

The complex, which hosts FIS Alpine Skiing Russian Cup events on an annual basis, is also equipped with modern artificial snow-making technology and injection systems, allowing for high-quality and stable snow cover - in line with the requirements of international competitions.

"Everything is really great, although it was tough," said Guryanova.

"I am glad I took the third place and I hope to do it again at my next runs.”

There are plans to test aspects of Krasnoyarsk 2019 such as medical care, security, logistics, accreditation, transport, volunteer work, catering and cultural events.

Organisational processes for in-competition conditions will also be trialled and worked out during the events.
