Russia’s men triumphed in the junior team foil event that brought the Junior and Cadets World Fencing Championships to a close at the Cattolica Center in Verona today.

The Russians finished on 128 points, with France taking the silver medal on 104.

In the men’s third place match, the United States defeated Japan 45-34.

Italy finished fifth with 64 points, four ahead of Belgium.

The United States earned the gold medal in the women’s competition with a total of 128 points, with silver going to Singapore, who totalled 104.

Bronze went to Germany, who totalled 80 points after overcoming France, who finished on 72, one place ahead of Japan.

More than 1,250 young fencers had taken part in the Italian city for this annual IInternational Fencing Federation (FIE) event.
