Buenos Aires 2018, due to take place between October 6 and 18, will mark the third appearance of 3x3 at the Summer Youth Olympic Games.

The sport's previous appearances at Singapore 2010 and Nanjing 2014 helped its campaign for inclusion on the main Olympic programme at Tokyo 2020. 

Lithuania's men and the United States women won the gold medals at Nanjing 2014. 

Belgium's men and America's women earned their ticket to Buenos Aires 2018 after winning gold medals at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3x3 U18 World Cup in Chengdu in China last year.

Argentina qualified for both the men's and women's events thanks to being hosts.

The other teams qualified for Buenos Aires 2018 because of their position in the FIBA 3x3 rankings. 

Besides Argentina, only seven countries will have a team in both the men and women's events.

They include Andorra, one of the world's smallest countries, who will be joined by China, Estonia, Ukraine, US and Venezuela.

The event will star 20 men's and 20 women's teams competing in the team's tournament and in two individual contests, men's dunk contest and women's shoot-out contest.

The full list of participating teams is Andorra, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, China, Estonia, Georgia, Italy, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Russia, Slovenia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, US and Venezuela in the men's event.

The women's tournament will feature Andorra, Argentina, Australia, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Romania, Spain, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, US and Venezuela.
