Stone, from Bishops Itchington in Warwickshire won team gold and individual silver in equestrian at the 1966 Paralympics while Murray, who is from Leamington, took gold at Sydney 2000 and gold and silver at Beijing last year in boccia.
 

The athletes will support the Coventry and Warwickshire 2012 Partnership’s lead ambassador, David Moorcroft, the former world record holder for the 5,000 metres who competed in three Olympics. 

Stone said: “I am really excited to have been asked to fulfil this role, it’s a huge privilege. 
 

“It is fantastic to see all the plans for Coventry and Warwickshire over the next three years, especially through the Partnership’s six flagship projects, and I am delighted to be a part of it. 
 

“A big part of my role is to share my experiences and if that can encourage even a handful of youngsters to engage in sport then it will have been worth the effort. 
 

“It is getting more and more exciting as we get closer to 2012 and as a sports person I hope as many people as possible will want to get involved in this once in a lifetime opportunity.”

“Recognising and raising the awareness of the Paralympic Games and disability sport is equally as important for Coventry and Warwickshire as we continue our journey to London 2012. 
 

“We are determined to provide as many people from Coventry and Warwickshire with their own experience of the 2012 Games and using local athletes to engage and inspire others is one way the 2012 Partnership looks to achieve that ambition.”
