Polish ski jumpers who won medals at the recent Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games have been honoured at a gala event held by the country's National Olympic Committee in Warsaw.

Large hill individual gold medallist Kamil Stoch and large hill team bronze medallists Maciej Kot, Stefan Hula, Dawid Kubacki and Stoch, along with head coach Stefan Horngacher, attended the event at the Olympic Centre in the Polish capital.

They were congratulated by Poland President Andrzej Duda.

The athletes also received prize money for their achievements in Pyeongchang.

Stoch, who is also overall ski jumping World Cup champion, said it was a privilege to have been invited to the event.

"It's a great honour, but it is my duty to say a few words about the people, who are not here, but who also contributed to my success and to the success of our team,” he said.

"I owe a lot to the entire coaching staff, they have spent a lot of time with us, they have shared our joys and failures.

“From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank them and share this prize with them.”

Horngacher added: "Hard work is one of the keys to success, but there are many keys, especially in ski jumping.

“Ski jumping is a really complicated sport - it can be so easy, but it can also be so hard.

“We are working a lot for it, we are not only standing on the tower and give the sign to jump - there is a lot of work behind this.

“But the first and the most important thing is the team and we are a really good team.

“The entire coaching staff - physical therapists, technical staff - everyone works very hard together.

“We have very good athletes, who are friends and work together.

"I think it's the foundation to achieve a good result, but in the end, hard work will pay off.”

Stoch has also been honoured by the Polish post office with a special stamp, which was designed in cooperation with his wife Ewa.

One million of the stamps will be printed.
