Two technical delegates from the ISU, Hugo Herrnhof and Peter Krick, visited the Capital Indoor Stadium during their inspection trip.

The venue is being retrofitted to stage the two sports at the Games after it played host to volleyball at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

Krick, technical delegate for figure skating, highlighted the reconfiguration of rooms and spaces for athletes and journalists as one of the main challenges for the facility in the lead-up to the event.

He described the venue as a "good facility" for figure skating, owing to its size and the proximity of the training rink.

Krick also praised organisers for their "valuable" sustainability attempt by transforming existing infrastructure into winter sport arenas.

"The architects made a proposal, and we are quite confident that it will work very well," added Krick.

The Capital Indoor Stadium, built in 1968, has experience in hosting a wide range of major sporting events.

It was used for the 2001 Summer Universiade and was one of the first Chinese venues to hold a National Basketball Association match.

"I think it will be something fascinating, which has the style…a little bit of the past, together with the new modern design," said Herrnhof, technical delegate for short track speed skating.

"It's going to be a very nice-looking venue.

"They will see a brand-new venue in 2022. 

"So they will all have a lot of memories and remember it as a very important venue, old and new."

Beijing will be one of three competition hubs during the 2022 Games.

The capital will be the home of ice sports at the event, with Alpine skiing and bobsleigh, luge and skeleton taking place in Yanqing.

Zhangjiakou is set to host snowboarding, ski jumping, biathlon and cross-country skiing.
