Jonathan Lobert led the French success by leading the Finn class at the end of day one of World Sailing's Sailing World Cup in Hyères.

The London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist ensured he finished top of the leaderboard thanks to a score of five on home water.

Brazil's Jorge Zarif finished second on six with two-time Greek Olympian Ioannis Mitakis finishing third on eight.

There was more success for the host country as Paralympic champion Damien Seguin led a French clean sweep of the top three positions in the 2.4 Norlin OD class.

The 38-year-old, winner of gold medals at Athens 2004 and Rio 2016 recorded a score of 2.00 in the 2.4 Norlin OD competition to put himself top of the rankings.

Compatriot Bruno Jourdren was second on 4.00 with Xavier Dagault completing the top three with a score of 7.00.

Croatia's Tonči Stipanović, an Olympic silver medallist at Rio 2016, came out on top in the laser with a score of 2.00.

He was far ahead of nearest challengers Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus and Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini of Great Britain, who finished second and third on 7.00 and 16.00 points respectively.

China experienced a good amount of success in today’s women’s events, leading in both the RS:X women and 470.

Peina Chen led the way in the RS:X women ahead of Israel's Noga Geller and Hong Kong's Hei Man H V Chan.

Mengxi Wei and Haiyan Gao, meanwhile, came out on top in the women’s 470.

They pushed Britain's Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre and France's Camille Lecointre and Aloïse Retornaz down into second and third respectively.

This leg of the Sailing World Cup series, which sees 690 sailors representing 46 nations compete on the French coast,  is due to conclude on Sunday (April 29).

The overall World Cup final will also take place in France with Marseille set to host it in June.
