Reigning Olympic champion Marit Bouwmeester assumed the women's laser radial lead as winds gradually improved at World Sailing's World Cup in Hyères.

Bouwmeester followed her fourth and second place finishes on day one with a 19th and a second place today.

It meant the Dutch star overhauled United States' 2005 world champion Paige Railey, won won the first two races yesterday before finishing seventh and 32nd in the two today.

Viktorija Andrulyte of Lithuania lies third today on 26 points.

Tonci Stipanovic of Croatia remains in the lead in the laser class despite only finishing seventh and 28th today.

He lies on nine points overall, after discarding the latter result, following his two victories yesterday.

Jean Baptiste Bernaz of France and Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus each lie five points behind on 14 overall.

Sam Meech of New Zealand sits in fourth after winning the first of two races today.

Great Britain's Nick Thompson is only 13th despite prevailing in the fourth.

Jonathan Lobert of France also remains in the lead despite a mixed day in the Finn class.

He failed to finish race three but bounced back with a second place in race four to remain in the lead on seven points.

Nicholas Heiner of The Netherlands is second on 11 points, with Brazil's Jorge Zarif one point further back in third.

This leg of the Sailing World Cup series, which sees 690 sailors representing 46 nations compete on the French coast, is due to conclude on Sunday (April 29).

The overall World Cup final will also take place in France with Marseille set to host it in June.
