Shirin Gerami is reportedly set to become the first female triathlete to represent Iran at the Asian Games.

According to the Tehran Times, Gerami has been selected to participate at the Games in Jakarta and Palembang later this year.

It would be Gerami's latest achievement in the sport, after she previously became the first Iranian female triathlete to represent the nation at the World Triathlon Championships.

She achieved the feat back in 2013, when the event took place in London.

The Iranian, who is based in England, raced in the event in full Islamic dress.

Gerami has designed a range of sportswear which is claimed to inspire other Iranian women to take part in sport.

The Iranian Triathlon Federation said they are also negotiating with their National Olympic Committee to send a male triathlete to the Asian Games.

It is expected that this would be Reza Salehi Amiri.

The Asian Games are due to take place from August 18 until September 2 across the two Indonesian host cities.

Ten thousand athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees will compete in 40 sports, 67 disciplines and 463 events.
