The reigning world champion registered an emphatic 9-0 win over his opponent to take Russia’s final gold medal tally to 12 from the 27 weight categories.

The Russians finished five clear of nearest challengers Ukraine, who could only manage one success today.

Georgia's Beka Berdzenishvili and Ukraine's Stanislav Bondarenko were the men’s over-100kg bronze medallists. 

Winning the first of Russia’s half-dozen gold medals today was Anastasia Valova, the 2015 and 2016 world gold medallist, who defeated Romania’s Daniela Poroineanu 1-0 in the women’s 56kg final.

The bronze medals went to France’s Laure Fournier and Moldova’s Mariana Donos.

Valova’s triumph was quickly followed by gold medal match victories for compatriots Vladimir Berezovskii and Arzhaan Chylbak.

Berezovskii edged Georgia’s Genadi Chirgadze in the men’s 62kg final, while Chylbak eased to a 9-1 win over Ukraine’s Denys Artymchuk in the combat men’s 52kg final with the establishment of his eight-point advantage bringing an end to the contest.

Rounding out the men’s 62kg podium were Ukraine’s Dmytro Yevdoshenko and Azerbaijan’s Javidan Garayev.

Armenia’s Grigor Mkhitaryan and Lithuania’s Gintaras Katkus were the combat men’s 52kg bronze medallists. 

Russia’s winning run was briefly halted when Irina Gromova lost narrowly to Moldova’s Natalia Budeanu in the final of the women’s 68kg category, which saw Serbia’s Ivana Jandric and France’s Tiphaine Legall claim the bronze medals.

But they were soon back on track with Evgenii Maksimov overcoming Belarus’ Tsimafei Emelyanau in the men’s 82kg final and Sheikh Khabibulaev knocking down Ukraine’s Bohdan Kondratovych on his way to coming from 1-0 behind and winning the combat men’s 68kg final by a scoreline of 8-1.

It was then left to Osipenko to round off an extremely productive day for the Russians, who had found themselves level on six gold medals with Ukraine after the penultimate day of competition.

The men's 82kg bronze medals went to Georgia’s Besarioni Berulava and Ukraine’s Oleksii Nizhenko, while Armenia’s Vachik Vardanyan and France’s Antoine Lefevre rounded out the combat men's 68kg podium.

Ukraine’s sole gold medal-winning performance today came courtesy of Anastasiia Sapsai, who raced to an 8-0 victory over Belarus’ Katsiaryna Kaliuzhnaya to secure the women’s over 80kg title.

Georgia’s Elene Kebadze and France’s Elena Chirac were the bronze medallists.

The one other final not involving a Russian athlete was that in the combat men’s 90kg category and saw 2017 world silver medallist Louis Laurent of France beat Ukraine’s Dmytro Batok 9-1 to conclude the three days of action.

The bronze medals went to Bulgaria’s Mariyan Dimitrov and Russia’s Gamzat Khiramagomedov.

The 2019 European Sambo Championships are due to take place in Gijón in Spain.
