A name to watch will be France's Olympic champion Chloe Esposito, who has won two gold medals in the women's events this season, including last time out in in Kecskemét in Hungary.

She will, however, be closely challenged by Russia’s reigning world champion Gulnaz Gubaydullina, who won the second out of the three golds on offer so far this campaign.

South Korea’s Woong-tae Jun will also be hoping to secure a second gold in two competitions after winning the men's event in Hungary last time.

His compatriot Lee Jihun and France's Christopher Patte are the other names in gold medal contention along with Russia's Olympic champion Alexander Lesun.

Hungary's mixed team of Demeter Bence and Kovacs Sarolta, an 11-time World Championship medallist, will be looking to build on their victory from the third event on home soil.

UIPM President Klaus Schormann believes this season could produce potential Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions.

"The Pentathlon World Cup offers a global and local showcase to our partners, broadcast partners and officials," he said.

"It also provides a perfect opportunity for our elite pentathletes and their coaches to put their hard work into practice in a world-class competition environment.

"With the Olympic Summer Games Tokyo 2020 only two years away, we are starting to see new talent emerge and this is a very exciting time for our movement.

"The athletes will be working hard this week to qualify for the UIPM 2018 Pentathlon World Cup Final in Astana."

The first two days of the event will see qualification take place with the finals happening from Friday (May 25) to Sunday (May 27).
