Yul Oeltze and Peter Kretschmer, the reigning C2 1000 metres world champions, showed their form has held up with a big win over a strong field in Duisburg.

The home pair touched in 3min 30,948sec on the German lake to beat Cuba's Serguey Torres Madrigal and Fernando Dayan Jorge Enriquez.

They clocked 3:31.645 for second place as Hao Liu and Hao Wang of China clinched third with 3:32.444.

“This is really impressive for us,” Oeltze said.

“It’s our home venue, it was a good race and we had a lot of fun.”

Max Hoff and Marcus Gross, part of Germany’s K4 1000 gold medal team at the Rio Olympics, prevailed in the K2 1000m today.

They won in a time of 3:11.974 to defeat Slovakia's Peter Gelle and Adam Botek, second in 3:13.744, and Australia's Riley Fitzsimmons and Jordan Wood, third in 3:14.557.

Britain's Lizzie Broughton broke the home domination by stepping down in distance from her marathon specialism to prevail in the K1 1,000m in 3:58.718.

It followed her 500m silver at last week's event in Szeged.

Sweden's Karin Johansson was second in 4:00.149 while there was bronze for Australia's Catherine McArthur in 4:02.739.
